Playing poker in Wien checked October 2026

Live poker in Vienna means Casino Wien, the Casinos Austria house on Kärntner Straße 41 in the 1st district, between the State Opera and Stephansplatz. Since 2020 Austrian law has allowed poker only in licensed casinos, which in practice means Casinos Austria.

Cash games run every day from 16:00 to 04:00. The regular games are No-Limit Hold'em at €1/€3 (buy-in from €100) and 5-Card Pot-Limit Omaha at €5/€5 (buy-in from €200). Put your name down by phone or with the floorman; a reservation only holds for the start time. The room runs a daily early-bird high-hand bonus and a bad-beat prize, and on Tuesday to Thursday evenings the €1/€3 game comes with free soft drinks.

Tournaments are occasional rather than nightly. The casino's calendar shows no weekly schedule, only special events such as start days for the CAPT Million series. Bigger Casinos Austria series such as Pokermania are played at Casino Baden.

Older listings to ignore: the Concord Card Casino in Simmering lost its licence at the end of 2019 and announced its closure in March 2020; its website still shows a 2019 calendar. The WINWIN halls at Monte Laa and Prater Arena have video lottery terminals only, no poker.

Entry: you must be 18 or older and show a valid official photo ID (copies, digital or paper, are not accepted). First-time visitors register at reception and are photographed. Dress is smart casual.

Getting there: U1 or U3 to Stephansplatz, or U1, U2 or U4 to Karlsplatz, then about 5 minutes on foot; trams 1, 2 and D stop at Oper/Karlsplatz.

What to bring: your passport or ID card, and a call ahead if you want a seat at the start.
